ETHICAL, EVIDENCE-BASED CARDIAC CARE

Dr. Kiran Lakkireddy

MD, DM Cardiology – JIPMER, FSCAI, FAPSIC

Expert in Complex Coronary Interventions, structural heart therapies, and dedicated to pioneering advanced patient-first clinical protocols.

Cardiology is not just about extending life, but restoring its true vitality. Every treatment decision we make must be guided by uncompromising ethics and validated medical science.

Cardiology Is About Treating the Patient-Not Just the Angiogram

Being diagnosed with a heart blockage can be frightening for both the patient and the family. Questions about angiography, stenting, bypass surgery and long-term safety can make the situation even more stressful.
I am Dr. Kiran Lakkireddy, Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at Apollo Hospitals, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, and Founder and Director of CANES Cardio & Nouro Clinics, Kondapur.
My approach is centred on ethical, evidence-based and technologically advanced cardiac care. I believe that cardiology is not about performing more procedures. It is about performing the right procedure for the right patient at the right time.
Every recommendation I provide is based on the patient’s symptoms, medical condition, clinical examination, investigation findings, international guidelines and expected long-term benefit.

A Journey Built on Clinical Excellence and Compassion

My journey in medicine began with the aim of making a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
I completed my MBBS and MD in Internal Medicine from Kurnool Medical College, where I developed a strong clinical foundation and a deep interest in cardiovascular medicine.
I later completed my DM in Cardiology from JIPMER, Puducherry, one of India’s premier medical institutions. My years at JIPMER shaped my approach to cardiology by combining scientific evidence, procedural excellence and compassionate patient care.
Through my work in high-volume cardiac centres, I developed specialised expertise in complex coronary interventions, CTO angioplasty and advanced structural heart procedures.
Today, I focus on patients with difficult coronary blockages, previously failed angioplasty. heavily calcified arteries, multivessel disease, chronic total occlusions and conditions requiring advanced structural heart intervention.

My Philosophy

Only when the answer is supported by scientific and clinical evidence do I recommend an intervention.

Sometimes the right treatment is angioplasty. Sometimes it is medication, lifestyle modification or regular observation. My goal is always to choose the treatment that geninvely benefits the patient.

Before recommending an intervention, I ask:

“Will this procedure genuinely improve the patient’s symptoms, or is there a safer, non-surgical path?”

Areas of Expertise

Providing advanced cardiovascular solutions with precision, modern technology, and a patient-first approach to complex structural interventions.

Complex Coronary Interventions

Precision-Guided Angioplasty

Advanced imaging and physiological assessment for accurate diagnosis and optimal outcomes.

Structural Heart & Peripheral Interventions

A Special Focus on CTO Angioplasty

Chronic Total Occlusion (CTO) is a coronary artery that has remained completely blocked for several months or years. Patients with CTO may have persistent chest discomfort, breathlessness, reduced exercise capacity or impaired heart function. Advances in guidewires, imaging and interventional techniques now allow many carefully selected CTOs to be treated through minimally invasive procedures. CTO angioplasty requires detailed planning, advanced wire-handling skills, imaging interpretation, patience and experience in managing complex anatomy.
The objective is not simply to open an artery, but to determine whether restoring blood flow will truly improve the patient’s symptoms and quality of life.

My Commitment to Ethical Cardiology

I do not recommend a cardiac procedure merely because it is technically possible. Every treatment recommendation is based on international guidelines, scientific evidence, patient symptoms, clinical examination, investigations, heart function and long-term benefit. Many patients consult me for a second opinion before angioplasty or bypass surgery. In some cases, intervention is the most appropriate treatment. In others, medication and lifestyle modification may be sufficient. Some patients may only require reassurance and regular follow-up.
My responsibility is to help evary patient make the most appropriate decision-not to pressure them into undergoing a procedure.

Continuous Learning for Better Patient Care

Lifelong Learning

Cardiology continues to evolve through new research, advanced technology and improved procedural techniques. I regularly participate in national and international scientific meetings, CTO conferences, complex coronary intervention programmes and structural heart workshops. I engage with global platforms including:
Continuous academic engagement helps me offer patients treatment aligned with current global evidence.

Looking Beyond Procedures

Cardiology is not only about angioplasty. It is about preventing heart disease and reducing the risk of future cardiac events.
Preventing the first heart attack is always better than treating the next one.
